Fostering Computational Thinking in Schools: The KIDZ Project’s Unplugged Approach
The project KIDZ (Cultural Technique Computational Thinking), supported by AK Wien, promotes computational thinking among grades three to six students and teachers without relying on technical devices (unplugged approach). It focuses on core competencies like abstraction, algorithms, and logic, crucial for problem-solving in various contexts. Through train-the-trainer workshops, it equips educators to teach these skills using Open Educational Resources, tested in student workshops. Funded by the Digitalization Fund Labor 4.0 of AK Wien from March 2022 to February 2024, KIDZ aims to enhance young people’s digital competencies sustainably. By fostering computational thinking early, it indirectly supports parents in understanding the foundations of digital literacy and encourages discussions about safe internet practices. This initiative prepares children to navigate the digital world responsibly, contributing to broader efforts in raising awareness about social media skills and internet safety among families.
