Parents’ Level of Awareness about Safe Internet Use

Parental awareness of children’s internet use is essential for safeguarding them from online threats and ensuring responsible digital behaviour. This study investigated the level of internet safety awareness among parents at a school in Libya. It found that parents generally possess only a moderate understanding of internet safety practices, which highlights a critical gap in knowledge. This gap poses risks to children, as inadequate parental awareness can lead to insufficient guidance and protection for their children’s online activities.
The study underscores the importance of enhancing parental knowledge about internet risks, online privacy, and the creation of strong passwords to protect children’s digital interactions. It advocates for educational initiatives, such as workshops and seminars, aimed at improving parents’ understanding of how to effectively monitor and guide their children’s internet use. Increasing parental awareness is vital for building a secure online environment for children and equipping parents with the tools they need to prevent online threats and manage their children’s digital presence safely.
