Helping children understand and interpret advertising

Launched in Portugal in 2008, Media Smart is a literacy project aimed at children between the ages of 7 and 14, with the aim of providing children with tools to help them understand and interpret advertising, preparing them to make informed choices. This project develops and provides free educational materials to schools, children’s organisations, teachers and educators, which aim to teach children to think critically about advertising in the context of their daily lives. The project aims to develop children’s critical thinking skills from a very young age, enabling them to understand the advertising messages addressed to them. Above all, it contributes to teacher training by providing a teaching method that educators (teachers and parents) can adapt according to their personal wishes.
