UNESCO’s project to understand and decode media

Global project on media literacy called Media and Information Literacy (MIL), developed and supported by UNESCO, which has to do with the skills for interpretation, critical understanding and expression of creativity through digital media, seeking to provide students with a constant critical approach that leads to meaningful participation in the communities in which they live. MIL brings together three distinct dimensions – information literacy, media and ICT literacy – seeking to act as a concept that empowers people, communities and nations to participate in and contribute to global knowledge societies. The project seeks to incorporate essential knowledge about the functions of media, libraries, archives and other information providers in democratic societies; the conditions under which the news media can effectively fulfil these functions; how to evaluate the performance of these functions, understanding and decoding the content and services offered.
