ACT ON! Enhancing Digital Literacy and Safety for Youth

“ACT ON! aktiv + selbstbestimmt online” is a significant media educational project focused on understanding and addressing the online behaviours of children and adolescents aged 10 to 14. Central to its approach is capturing young people’s perspectives on their digital lives and how they manage encountered risks. Through practical workshops conducted nationwide, trained facilitators engage participants in discussions about their online activities using interactive media education methods. Topics covered include influencers, self-presentation, social media communication, and risks like hate speech and misinformation. Participants develop strategies to navigate these challenges, articulate their protection needs, and outline effective support approaches in their online environments.
Furthermore, the project supports youth work institutions in developing media educational guidelines, aiming for broader accessibility among educational professionals. An ongoing monitoring study surveys children and adolescents annually on various online behaviour topics, with findings disseminated through reports, events, and social media. This initiative is pivotal in enhancing digital safety awareness among children and parents alike, equipping them with practical tools and insights to navigate the digital landscape responsibly.
