Irish Safer Internet Centre
The Irish Safer Internet Centre brings together four organisations (Webwise, Hotline.ie, Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children [ISPCC] and National Parents Council Primary) under the leadership of the Department of Justice’s Cybercrime Division. It is Ireland’s contribution to a network of 31 Safer Internet Centres in the EU, UK, Iceland, and Norway, and is co-financed by the EU.
The Irish Safer Internet Centre divides its functions across three key areas: an awareness centre, helpline, and hotline. The awareness centre is exactly that, a hub that provides crucial digital safety resources to relevant stakeholders. It also organises an annual Safer Internet Day. The helpline, meanwhile, is divided into two camps: one for children, and one for adults. Both deal with difficulties pertaining to online safety, either by providing a listening ear or access to training courses. Finally, the hotline facilitates secure, anonymous reporting of potentially harmful online material.
