Portuguese broadcasting channel teaches media literacy
At the invitation of RTP Ensina, the Portuguese broadcasting channel online portal dedicated to a wide variety of topics for the learning process in schools for students and teachers alike, ALMJ – Associação Literacia para os Media e Jornalismo has devised a series of media education contents, which are available online. The 14 explainers – produced by journalists and researchers who are part of ALMJ training programme – cover topics such as the elements and principles of journalism, news, news values, journalistic genres, the difference between fact and opinion, ethics, sources of information, how the media works, regulation, participation and citizenship, media literacy, disinformation, information consumption, social networks and Internet safety. The content is available on the RTP Ensina website, under the Citizenship | Media Education subtheme. In each of the 14 videos there is a short text and video on a specific topic in a language suitable for school audiences (3rd cycle and secondary, in particular).
