The Digital Services Act 2024
The Digital Services Act 2024 introduces new rules to protect children and adults online. It makes online platforms accountable and responsible for the content they host and for the safety of users. Any illegal or harmful content must be quickly identified by the platform. Platforms covered by the App include Apps (Apple and Google Play), Cloud services (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure Support and Google Cloud Platform Support), Content Sharing Platforms (YouTube, TikTok, etc), Internet Service Providers, and so on. Please see the link below for the full list.
Since 17 February 2024, people in Ireland have the right to complain about online platforms if they find the content to be harmful or illegal or if they have any concerns about targeted ads. Complaints should be made directly to the platform initially. If users do not feel their concerns have been appropriately responded to, they can then contact Coimisiún na Meán.
